"1842" is Northern Tasmania's largest commercial art gallery and represents over a dozen of Tasmania's best artists. Our artists include Zhang Dawo who is regarded as one of the world’s foremost avant garde Chinese calligraphers. We also feature work by talented contemporary artists such as John Butler, Tony Ryan and Claudette Collingwood.
Our landscapists include virtuoso painter Gay Hutton, naive stylist Philippa Bromson and newcomers such as Julia Rogers, James Walker and Vicki McDonald. We also show the superb human form images by Jon Morrison and macroscopic scientific illustrations by Craig Williams.
To round out the exhibitions, we feature work by Tasmanian maireener shell necklace maker Lola Greeno and work by Central Australian artists Thomas Tjapaltjarri, Kubbitji Kngwarraye, Ngoia Pollard and Pegleg Tjampitjinpa. We also deal in older Aboriginal ochre barks.
