1842 is Northern Tasmania’s largest commercial art gallery and represents over a dozen of Tasmania’s best artists. Our artists include Zhang Dawo who is regarded as one of the world’s foremost avant garde Chinese calligraphers. We also feature work by talented contemporary artists such as John Butler, Tony Ryan and Julia Rogers.
Our landscapists include virtuoso painter Gay Hutton, naive stylist Philippa Bromson and consummate representational artist, Helen How. We also show the superb human form images by Jon Morrison.
To round out the exhibitions, we feature work by Tasmanian maireener shell necklace maker Lola Greeno and work by Central Australian artists Thomas Tjapaltjarri, Kubbitji Kngwarraye, Ngoia Pollard and Pegleg Tjampitjinpa. We also deal in older Aboriginal ochre barks.
